Joseph was a beacon of joy, creativity, and inspiration. Born into the warm embrace of his family in Boston, Joseph quickly became known for his infectious smile and spirit of unity that drew people together. As the second child of Joseph Jr. and Carmencita Feaster, and the adored first grandson of Wilhelmina Feaster, his arrival marked a celebration of new beginnings and familial bonds. Joseph and his sister Aalana shared an unbreakable bond, with his early nickname, “smiley,” perfectly capturing his cheerful disposition.
Throughout his childhood in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Joseph’s brilliant mind and athletic prowess shone brightly. His academic journey through the METCO program, from Memorial Spaulding Elementary to Brown Middle School to Newton High School, was distinguished by numerous honors that celebrated his intellectual and athletic talents. Joseph thrived in a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, football, and lacrosse, and his interests spanned from playing the saxophone to engaging in scouting activities.
Joseph’s academic pursuits led him to the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a graduation from UMASS Boston with a degree in political science and an opportunity to be the statistician for Athletic Director Charlie Titus’ sports program. His creative mind found expression in technology, video games, and a screenplay for a film class, showcasing his quick wit and multifaceted talents. His work ethic and kindness touched many, from his roles at Walgreens and with notable figures in Boston to running his own internet business.
However, beneath his achievements and vibrant exterior, Joseph faced significant mental health challenges. Despite his resilience and the support of those who loved him, these challenges deeply affected him. Ultimately, Joseph’s struggle with mental health led to his tragic death by suicide, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Joseph’s legacy is not defined by his struggles but by the light he brought into the world and the efforts now made in his memory to illuminate the importance of mental health awareness. His life story encourages open conversations about mental health and the impact it has on individuals and their families. It’s a call to action to support one another, recognize the signs of mental health issues, and seek help when needed.
